ANALYSIS OF PICTURE BOOKS

An analysis of various picture books is proposed from the perspective of authorship and book creation, articulating perspectives from semiotics, narrative, and graphics.
Together we think, debate and construct new proposals and questions regarding the function of the image in illustrated books.
TOPICS: Style (local, global and personal), the author's discourse, creative processes in the creation of an picture book, types of illustrated books, stereotypes of form and concept, references, research and interpretation, narrative and rhetoric of the image, hypertextuality, metafiction, the publishing world.

CAN YOU MAKE A LIVING FROM ILLUSTRATION?

In this talk, the author talks about his experiences in the publishing world, his relationship with books, the market and how he has been able to make a living working as an illustrator.

BOARD GAME DESIGN

A talk by the author and designer of the games: Pio, Cosechas and Pajaritos is proposed. This talk is aimed at a non-specialist audience, who is entering the world of board games. We will see how the transition and relationship between the books and the games of his authorship has been, as well as all the processes and experiences that the design of these games has had.

Workshops
MORPHOLOGY AND CHARACTER CREATION

A practical workshop is proposed in which we will use various exercises and illustration techniques that stimulate the creation of characters, having at hand different morphologies or ways of doing illustration (organic, geometric, accidental, object-based and anatomical), which when mixed together will generate various graphic possibilities.
TOPICS: Stereotypes of form and concept, morphology in illustration (geometric morphology, organic morphology, accidental morphology), mixture of morphologies.
MODALITY: Practical / In-person
DURATION: 4 hours (2 sessions of 2 hours)
MATERIALS: Pencil, paper, black India ink, black and white acrylics, other materials (Black and white, whatever you like, the more the better).
ILLUSTRATION AND COMPOSITION

A practical workshop is proposed in which we will look for different ways to compose an illustration, placing characters in different contexts, situations and actions; thinking about and applying the created compositions to possible illustrated book formats.
TOPICS: Random compositions, shots and cinematic frames, character and context, color, contrast, tonal ranges, book and design.
MODALITY: Practical / In-person
DURATION: 4 hours (2 sessions of 2 hours)
MATERIALS: Acrylics and/or vinyl (primary colors plus black and white), colored pencils, pencil and paper.
GRAPHIC NARRATIVE

A practical workshop is proposed in which visual sequence and graphic narrative exercises for illustrated books will be developed. We will propose a short story and look for different ways to tell it with visual and narrative resources, using the common structural bases in illustrated books.
TOPICS: Graphic narrative, visual sequence, generation of ideas, outline, script, story board, structure, model.
MODALITY: Practical / In-person
DURATION: 4 hours (2 sessions of 2 hours)
MATERIALS: Pencil, paper, colored pencils.
Consultancies
PERSONALIZED ADVICE FOR BOOK CREATION

Consulting for the creation of illustrated books is personalized, and for projects in the following stages of creation:
- Idea, narrative and sketches
- Story board
- Model with sketches and illustrations
- Finished model
During these sessions, Dipacho will do a first review of the book, either in physical format or in PDF, and then a meeting will be organized to analyze the project together. In this meeting we will see references, creative processes, methods, personal notebooks and other resources necessary for the development of the project.
If required and if the participant wishes, more work sessions will be held.
